Now, who are The Broken String?
THE BROKEN STRING is a collective of original Memphis musicians including HOPE CLAYBURN'S SOUL SCRIMMAGE, PSYCHEDELTA, SOLSTICE, JASON FREEMAN, VALERIE JUNE, THE TUNNEL CLONES, and more. It was formed in 2005 by ROBERT ALLEN PARKER and KHARI WYNN. The original purpose remains intact: to help promote each other's music through live showcases, the Internet, and word of mouth. In 2005, they distributed over 1000 free compilation CD's to the Memphis public.
Clearly, there are no financial motives with this loose organization. Any profits made are funneled back into original music projects and events. THE BROKEN STRING intends to spread CREATIVE & HONEST local music far and wide and to defy categories with its eclectic roster of musicians.
In 2006, HOPE CLAYBURN'S SOUL SCRIMMAGE hosted a weekly BROKEN STRING live music showcase at the Full Moon Club for an explosive 10 month run. Currently in 2007, production has been underway for a documentary film: THE BROKEN STRING under the direction of NAN NUNES HACKMAN and ROBERT ALLEN PARKER.
